New Project in the Works

I have a new camera and few skills, leave it with me

Some of the pretty applique shapes waiting for their friends

Another attempt at photography

Annies Garden is the new quilt project I am embarking on. It's from the Material Obsession book 1 by Sarah Fielke and it is such a bright, pretty little thing. I am taking my time with this one, not at all like I normally would. Firstly because there is a lot of applique to make and secondly this is all I can manage lately, I seemed to have slowed down. I am trying to savour things more and not be in such a rush to get things done. I am trying to use the fabrics I have on hand without having to purchase more, I am sure I can do this, I have a few tucked away...

The Future is in their hands...

These 5 girls are having a ball if the photo is anything to go by. It was taken whilst on holiday in Bali in December '09 and it was very hot and steamy, hence the shiny faces. These girls are sisters aged 24, 23, 21, 19 and 17 (as at the time of the photo). They were celebrating the 21st Birthday of the girl second from the left. Arrived back in the country Christmas Eve and I was so glad that they were home safe and sound. So many stories to relate, so much laughter even some grumbles, but all in all it was a time that they will always hold dear in their memories. Oh did I say that I am the mother of these five girls, well I am. :) And for that I am truly blessed.
Five wonderful young women with the world at their feet. Their future is full of possibilities.

Happy Monday Morning

Our attempts at creating a water wise garden
Favourite morning view

View from the kitchen window

Hope your all having a great Monday morning. I tried to post a new entry several times yesterday but it seems Blogger was having a day off and so I was unable to. My plans for today include doing more applique, maybe having my BF K come over for a cuppa and a chat, start reading my new book and ahhh whatever else takes my fancy. Oh the life of a stay at homer is full of possibilities. Today I am putting up the pics that I tried so hard to do yesterday. I intend to put more pics up but first I need to work out how to resize them before I load them as it is taking 10 minutes to load just 1 photo. Next time I will show you what I am working on.

How & why this blog began...

Pics of Tara Frey's Blogging for Bliss book

When I resigned from my job in June 2008, I became a stay-at-home-all-the-time person. I had significant health issues that prevented me from doing anything energetic and so I developed a close and personal relationship with my laptop. Also at this time a long time friend persuaded me to try patchwork quilting. I had never been a sewer, even though I had owned 2 Janome machines. Anyway she gave me some web site addresses so I could learn more about the craft. Before long I was ordering fabric online and became obsessed with it all. The fabric was so lucious-who knew?? Then I started making stuff like table runners and before long was making small quilts and such. I was off and running, could not get enough of it all. I was learning so much and it filled my days. My other half was happy to support me, anything to keep me busy and engaged in something. Then I discovered blogs!! What an absolute delight that was. I was so in awe after looking at the pictures of quilts, families, homes, foods, landscapes. I was checking on them every day, and if they had not posted a new psot for a while felt a real loss.
Anyway, in the back of mind I thought about setting up my own blog, but was of the belief that I had nothing to write about. Then I purchased the above book by Tara Frey writer of the blog bellapink and the rest is history. I have a lot to thank her for as she really gave me the tools to do this blog. I am learning so many new skills-who would have known that eh? I am in the early stages of development yet, but look out I am gaining on them. I would love to hear what you think about it so far. Ideas welcomed. Thank you for reading.

I'm still tired!

Well I suppose there is an expectation that I will write the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth so here I am to say that I am absolutely, truly tired. I am so tired that when I finish this post I am heading back to bed. I know that it is barely mid morning, but my eyes keep shutting and I nearly fell forward onto my laptop just minutes ago. I am lucky I don't have small children to run after, the baby left for school just over half an hour ago so it's just me and myself until 4pm today.

I was also hoping to put up some pictures taken with my mobile phone-good ones too, but due to a technical hitch (A.K.A I don't know what I am doing) they will have to wait for another post.

I have no expectations of myself today other than getting some more rest for my tired body and then maybe if my eyes will stay open long enough, tracing more flowers for my new applique project, which I will talk more about soon. Bet you can't wait eh?

The good things about Thursdays

I love Thursdays. It is the day before Friday and we all love that day because that means it's nearly the weekend. And Thursday is the day I get to spend time with my friends doing something I really love-sewing, talking, drinking coffee/tea and generally having a positive and invigorating afternoon. I will admit that so far not much sewing has occured, although my friend Sue has managed to sew at least 4 badges on her daughters blanket.

Thursdays break my week up and give me something to look forward to. So have another think about what Thursdays are like for you and maybe see what you can maked of yours. Let me know how you go will you??

I am putting a picture up of a past project that may or may not provide inspiration to me to get going on a new project. This small quilt was made for a friend who was turning 50, she loved it.

Ummm Third post...

No it is not because I want to fill my page with my own comments. I just wanted to stop the help alert as I discovered how to correct the date and also how to show more than one post at a time. This is gonna be a steep learning curve. Please bare with me. Now is that the correct spelling bare? or is it bear? Mm mm

Second post for the day

Okay now I thought I was clever enough to set myself up with a blog, but maybe I was wrong, there are a few things I have not been able to do. One is the date it is showing that it is tuesday 23 March when in fact it is the 24th March here in Australia. Any hints on how to change that? Also can not add a photo to my profile, any ideas there please?

Testing, testing 1..2..3

Wow! Here I am writing my first blog. I am not sure how I will go with the whole blogging deal but I am sure going to give it my best shot. If anyone out there wants to leave me feedback for making improvements please do so. Once I work out how to add photos I will.
