Easter Friday 2011

Hello friends. Are you doing anything special for Easter? Do you have long standing family traditions? Are you taking the opportunity of having a few public holidays to have a small holiday? I got to thinking yesterday that our little family doesn't do much at this time of the year. For one we are not Christians and really I suppose we have just not thought to do anything. Does this make us bad? I am grateful for the break, even though I am not working outside the home, the air has that 'holiday'atmostphere about it, if you know what I mean? :)

However I am excited because the bloke and I are driving to Perth, over 600km's away Sunday as I have to have some testing done, and after that we are travelling on to visit the 'middle child' who appears below this blurb. A pic taken when she was at a work party, she makes a good flapper eh?

There is a young lady hiding under this quilt, who does not want me to photograph her.
Playing with some new fabric, one of my favourite things to do. :)
New book I am reading, so far it resonates with me

Sewing a binding onto one of several
projects I have undertaken this year

I have been up since 4.30am today and now I am ready to go back to bed, I am so tired. I have my hairdresser coming at 10am so hope I don't sleep in.
Enjoy your time whatever it is that you do.

Ciao

Friday on my mind

Hello friends TGIF.
To end a busy week on a lighter moment I have posted some vintage advertisements that were recently sent to me via email. Sorry I can't credit the original owner. Really these are too funny not to be shared.
Hope you can have a laugh.

On another note this week I have been busy which is good for me. I decided that I must make a new quilt for my third Daughter who we are visiting after Easter. This will be her second bed sized quilt, but my first attempt was less than pretty. So with this in mind I pulled out my lovely Amy Butler Soul Blossoms fabric and looked for a pattern in which to follow. After flicking through numerous magazines, books, conducting Internet searches looking for that one special "this is the one" moment I remained underwhelmed. I admit to having perfectionist tendencies and this can cause me great distress at times and actually prevents me from doing what I want. However, the sense of urgency motivated me into action and I was just itching to get stitching. And I also like slicing up the fabrics. So of I went. Yesterday I happily completed the quilt top, but don't have any photos as yet, but they will be taken over the weekend. Now for the backing fabric, which I will make this arvo, after my friends go home. Yes, I have visitors coming over after lunch-yippee.

Well just a short post today, but will be back soon.
Keep well.

On a sunny Saturday afternoon

Hello friends

I finally have some new pictures for you to see what I have been up to recently, if your even interested that is? :)
I have a real mix here today, a quilt finish, yes that quilt that I have been going on about for some time. Finally finished!
The bloke took it outside to photograph early this morning before I had even got out of bed, how great is he?

Love the circle sun spots on quilt

The beautiful fabric is by Australian designer Saffron Craig and the pattern is also by her and is called Fairy Tree Quilt. Loved making it despite the tedium of all that applique, and a slight fabric fraying issue. This quilt is going to be put away to await the arrival of a grandchild, should any of my daughters decide to start a family. :)

Mum passed away in August last year and her home is still unsold so some of the family take it in turns of checking on it and watering the rose garden, which had been mum's pride and joy. The roses were so fragrant and pretty that the bloke who goes out there, for me cut some and bought them home to me.
We also took some out to the cemetery and placed them on  mum and dad's grave, I like to think that they would have liked that.

A bucket of blooms...

Well that's your bloomin'lot (with thanks to ABC Australia's retired gardener Peter Cundill).

Hope you enjoy the photos, let me know what you think, some time.

The past tells a story

Warning graphic Photo following

A few months ago I turned the T.V on during the day and watched a show called Dr Oz. Dr Oz is an affable American doctor, first discovered by daytime t.v queen Oprah. I like the show because he discusses all manners of things, even what some would consider to be cringeworthy. I have learnt so many new things since watching. Anyway the point of this post was not too advertise for Dr Oz, but rather point you to an interesting article he has posted today on his facebook page. I have included a link for you to read, please do have a look. It is something I have a huge interest in, seeing as for nearly thirty years I have been amongst those who have been told how deathly unhealthy I was due to my lifestyle choices.

Egyption Mummy(LA Times)

It certainly raises discussion as to why many medical people attribute atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries) to modern day lifestyle choices. And what does this mean for the  future? Have we been fed a whole lot of bumpkiss? I am not suggesting for one moment that we should all get out there and bust our chops on fat laden, salty foods, but maybe, just maybe, we might be able to have a little bit of what we fancy, without the guilt?

What do you think?

A Sunday Afternoon In April

A quiet Sunday afternoon in this house today. Had a later start to the day than usual as the old back was dragging me down this morning. I got up and found myself walking like a twisted yabby.

After a nice warming shower; Did I ever tell you that I absolutely love my shower? Well I am telling you now. I do. For me it is like a spiritual experience. The fact that I need to sit down to take my shower means that I may be guilty of staying a little to long under the water, oh but never so long that my fingers turn all wrinkly.
I recently splashed out on (no pun intended) some nice Body Shop products and the shower gels are gorgeous.

I also bought myself a cactus body brush which has proved beneficial for my skin as well as I have lymphodeama and things have improved for me a little since I started using it. But I wont give the brush all the credit as a few other things have changed that could also be contributing to it.

Oh well now that you know my ablution habits, i think it is time to move on to other things.
Like my sewing, or lack of it. Ho hum I am a ...don't you dare finish that off. lol
I am today sewing the binding to the back of the quilt before washing said quilt and then I will chuck it on top of the fabric cupboard, awaiting for a chance to use it. Maybe the next time, a dear friend of mine Sue M visits with her very cute small person who is a real darling, as are her two sweet sisters. She usually has a nap while we chat and she gets to snooze on the bean bag with one of my quilts on her. I love the fact that people use them. :) Gives me warm fuzzies. :)

On another note in the past week I have been making friends with some lovely people and have added their blogs to my blog list. If you get some time, you should check these people out. There is a diverse range of interests there and if you can't find something to like then your not trying. :)
Such clever people and do you know what? They are often so generous and will take time to share blogging skills, help you create photo collages, and so much more, just have to ask.
I feel so lucky to be living in the time that I do so I can take advantage of the talent out there.
Well I am true to form today have certainly rambled and gone all over the place.

Hope you are all well and enjoying the moment...

Till next time...Ciao
