Coffee, Bills and a holiday

It's early Sunday morning but I am already onto my second cup of coffee, paid and filed our bills, checked my Facebook for updates and have also gone through copious amounts of emails. Yep, great start to my day. The weather is predictably very hot and although I remain indoors in air conditioned comfort, by mid afternoon it is getting uncomfortable inside.

                                                     Rossiter Bay, Esperance W.A

In recent news the bloke and I had a small trip to the coast. We left on a Friday after lunch and arrived early evening in time for a takeaway dinner from the local Chinese restaurant. Now, we have eaten from this place numerous times over the years we have been visiting Esperance, but the food this time was terrible. It really put a dampener on our first evening. Then to bed thank goodness I thought, well no. For some reason the bed was really high and I was unable to sit back far enough on the bed to lift my legs onto it. So picture this if you wish-Me perched precariously on the very edge of said bed. The bloke half crouching over me, ready to lift my legs as I swing up and onto it. He also has  two of the beds wheels chocked up with his thongs to prevent it taking off through the wall. He then expertly hooks my legs up and onto the bed and I'm in for the night. Unfortuantley in the early hours of the morning I needed to use the toilet so after that there was no way I was going through all that again, so I sat on his single bed and he climbed into my bed.

The following day we drove around to the shops and out to the beaches which were stunning, and the weather was very nice for us. Deciding that we would do chicken and salad for dinner that night we had bought the ingredients for the salad and the bloke would go to the local chicken franchise to buy some chook. Of he went and about twenty minutes later he calls to tell me that the chicken shop has run out of chicken so it was fish and chips and salad. Seriously how does a chicken shop run out of chicken?

On the Sunday we drove out to the beautiful Cape Le Grand National Park, about a 1/2 hour to forty minute drive out of Esperance. Spectacular coastline and the water was such a gorgeous shade of deep blue. However there were people everywhere and I didn't feel comfortable getting out in front of them and sitting in my wheelchair so we drove further along a mostly dirt, bone rattling track to Rossiter Bay, a more quieter location to eat our picnic lunch. We had the place to ourselves and even though it was very windy we didn't mind as it was such a change from where we live in the dry, dusty Goldfields.
Funnily enough mid way through lunch along came another car, and would you believe given that the whole area was vacant except us they parked just one car width away from us! Now I am no snob, but heck why do people do this? It also happens in car parks. You can be the only car parked but come out and someone has parked so close to your car that you need a can opener to get in.

On this trip away we did something we have never done before. Now before you get too alarmed it was ordering room service. Yep, in all of our 31 years together we have never indulged in this 'treat'. Of course it was more expensive than we would normally spend on a meal, but we never go out for a meal and it is one more  thing ticked off our bucket list. Studying the menu was exciting, and the thought of the delicious foods made our mouths water. In the end the bloke chose surf n turf  and beer battered chips and I had a rump steak with Diane sauce, beer battered chips and salad. It was delivered within half an hour of us ordering. Verdict was that is was great and a must do thing again.

On the Monday we packed up the van and headed for home. I love coming home again. sigh...

Does anyone have any memorable stories of a trip away?

Keep well,

Connection Disconnection

Hello folks. I seem to be getting quite poor at keeping my blog up to date. In fact I have been wondering if there is a point to me keeping it going. I'm in two minds because I do actually enjoy writing, but due to my current situation I often don't feel I have anything worth writing about. Of course I can keep it going purely as a record of my life for myself, with no one else reading, but do I really want that?
I enjoy, no I frigging love getting comments. I love that someone can take a few minutes to write to me, and connect on some level. It is no secret that I crave connection. Even more so since I took up my self imposed isolation. I do have a sister (actually I have four sisters and three brothers) who visits me every Tuesday, and I usually have a visit from my lovely friend Alinka weekly. Less often I get a visit from another long term friend Kay who makes me laugh and with whom I can forget my troubles for just a while. I am grateful to all these people.
But there are many hours to fill, when there is nobody around. When the bloke goes to work from 5am-6pm, and the daughters are at work, there is just me. And mostly I am not the best company for myself. This is because I have time to think and dwell on my lot in life. I am renown for my anxiety. Small problems can become bigger due to the many what ifs.
Furthermore my hunger for connection has seen me become a compulsive facebook user.  Love to hear up to the minute news from friends, family and acquaintances. Gee if it wasn't for fb how would I even know who is marrying who, whose pregnant, who is arguing with who, the latest purchases, where my friend had coffee or a meal. Yes I can live vicariously through them all.
The off shoot of these type of electronic connections is that I have moved beyond purely online friendship to texting and even speaking on the telephone in some instances. It really makes a difference in my life. How much poorer would my little world be without it?
I often hear people criticise facebook and other social media networks but like anything else it is what you allow it to be. It is about choice. I choose people I am interested in and who I wish to have contact with. Quite simple really.
So this brings me back to the blogging thing. For the moment I will keep it going. I do want to keep my hand in, and maybe, just maybe, I might become inspired to write a must read blog, as good as any of the popular ones I read.
So there you go, a lot said about not too much. I hope you are all doing well and find the time to give a shout out.

Until next time,

Friends

                                                        (Tumbler image)

Hello folks I'm here again. Since my last post I have tried hard to rise above the darkness which has overtaken my life. I've reached out to my loyal band of supporters and they have responded to me with their usual optimistic outlook. How lucky am I to have such a great bunch of friends?

I must add that when I say friends I also include those dear people I have never even met, yet 'speak' daily too in some circumstances.

When I found myself predominantly housebound in June 2008, I became heavily involved in an online forum as a way of staying connected to the outside world. At this time I also became more active on facebook, where I maintained long term friendships as well as joining groups that interested me and where I could be considered part of the family. Yes, it truly feels like they are part of my extended family. We share a common goal which is to learn new things, to help each other out with advice, offer support when someone needs it and most importantly have a laugh. And I do love to laugh. Haven't done too much of that lately though.

And of course since writing this blog I have got to know people who comment regularly and who will also email me privately to offer support or comment on a post.

I want to say a big thank you to all these people. You have made my life better than I imagined. I never imagined I would be conversing with women from all over the globe. Smart, witty, clever women who I admire greatly.

And still on the subject of friends I am sad to report that one of my long term friends Sue and her family are leaving town to take up residence on the coast in W.A
I don't cope well with farewells. We had a lunch this week with another friend and when the time came for her to leave we both avoided those final words. We left it with the idea that there might be time for one more quick catch up. Hmm I guess it means I need to consider travelling 12 hours to see her from time to time.

Okay I'll finish it here I am in need of my first coffee for the day. Thanks Kate for that.

Take care,
